Barney is a 6-foot-6-inch center from Montrose Colo., who was previously a member of the Otero Junior College men’s basketball team in La Junta, Colo.
In high school, Barney averaged 12 points and seven rebounds per game and earned all-conference first team honors for his efforts. He also helped his high school team to the Colorado 4A State Championship game as a senior.
“We are excited to have Ross a part of the Hardrocker Family,” said Hardrocker men’s basketball head coach Jason Henry. “His time at Otero and his playing experience will help in his transition to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. We look forward to having a big, strong, hardworking scholar athlete join the Hardrocker program.”
While attending South Dakota Mines Barney plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.
“I am excited to become a Hardrocker because of the rigorous coursework with a promising future along with the opportunity to do something special on the court,” Barney said.
