ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • Cody O’Neill is in his sixth year at South Dakota Mines.
  • He was named the offensive line coach at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in March of 2017.
  • He is going into his sixth year on staff at South Dakota Mines. In 2021, he transitioned from being an offensive line coach to an administrative role as the Director of Operations.
  • Handles administrative duties for football program, including travel.
  • Communicates and coordinates with NFL personnel for scouting and practice visits.
  • Oversaw and coordinated bus partnership with Moose Tracks.
  • Following the 2020 season, Jack Batho an offensive lineman who spent his last three seasons under the tutelage of O’Neill played in the Hula Bol and was signed to an Undrafted Free Agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons and having a tryout with the New York Giants.
  • In the shortened 2020 season, O’Neill helped lead the South Dakota Mines running game to average 196.5 yards per game, a number that was 15th in the nation at the Division II level.  
  • Under O’Neill the offensive line was in the top-20 in Division II, allowed six sacks.
  • During the 2019 campaign, Ahmad Lewis rushed for 1,385 yards and 125.9 yards per game, both were 10th in Division II. He earned first team All-RMAC.
  • Offensive lineman Grant Smith earned honorable mention All-RMAC.
  • In his first year with South Dakota Mines, O’Neill’s coaching led to a ground game that averaged 204.5 yards per game, 32nd in Division II and 30 rushing touchdowns – 16th in the nation.
  • 4 offensive players earned All-RMAC that year, including running back Connor Silveria (First Team), and offensive lineman Robert Schrock (second team).
  • Silveria finished 8th in Division II with 135.6 rushing yards per game to go with 1,220 total yards (17th).
  • In 2017, the final year at MSU-Northern the Lights set single-game school records with 376 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns against Mayville State University.
  • He helped running back Zack McKinley reset the rushing record board at MSU-Northern. McKinley set records in the following statistics: rushing yards in a season (1,451 – 2014), rushing yards in a career (4,699 – 2013-16), rushing touchdowns in a game (4 – 2014), rushing touchdowns in a season (14 – 2014), rushing touchdowns in a career (40 – 2013-16), 100+ yard rushing games in a season (8 – 2014), 100+ yard rushing games in a career (17 – 2013-16). McKinley also holds records in carries and average carries per game, per season, and career.
  • In 2015, McKinley earned Second Team All-Frontier and in 2014 was named First Team All-Frontier.
  • Following his collegiate career, O’Neill earned an invite and participated in Minnesota Vikings mini-camp.
  • O’Neill started 23 of 24 games in the final two seasons of his career at the University of South Dakota, earning honorable mention All-MVFC honors in his senior year (2013). He was named he USD Tim McFaland Lineman of the year, a team captain and member of the USD Coyotes’ leadership Council.
  • He earned his bachelor’s degree in education (2014) and his master’s degree in education, instruction and learning (2017).
