Rockers in Colorado Springs for Mountain Lion Classic

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Volleyball hits the road this weekend for the Mountain Lions Classic at UCCS.

Series History

Since 2014, UCCS holds an 11-4 record over South Dakota Mines. While the Rockers have won two of the last three matchups, UCCS defeated the Hardrockers 3-1 last season in Colorado Springs. In their lone matchup, Michigan Tech defeated then Rockers 3-1 during the 2015 season.

South Dakota Mines last played St. Edward's in 2016, with the Hilltoppers winning 3-0 in their only matchup. The Hardrockers are 1-0 all-time against Midwestern State with their win in 2018 in Kearney, Nebraska.

About the Mountain Lions

UCCS is 1-3 after their opening tournament at Colorado School of Mines. After they fell to Flagler in their season opener, they defeated (RV) Rockhurst before losing to (RV) Northern State. They lost to Cal Poly Humboldt to close opening weekend. Payton Tompkins leads UCCS with 61 total kills and 3.81 kills per set.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech comes into the weekend with a 2-2 overall record. To open the UP North Tournament, they fell to Minnesota Duluth and #5 St. Cloud State. They took down Cal State East Bay and Winona State to end the weekend. Rachel Zurek averaged 4.38 kills per set over the weekend for the Huskies.

About the Hilltoppers

Through their first weekend, St. Edward's is 2-2. They lost their first two matches against Missouri Western and Florida Southern at the Bahama House Classic. On the second day, they beat Florida Tech and Embry-Riddle. Kelli Fording lead their offense with 3.92 kills per set after the first weekend.

About the Mustangs

Midwestern State picked up two wins in three tries at the FHSU Tiger Classic last weekend. After downing Truman State in their first match, they were swept by Fort Hays State in their second. The Mustangs picked up a win over Regis in the finale. Isabella Dickens leads Midwestern State with 4.33 kills per set, while Remi Madison has 3.11 kills per set.

About the Hardrockers

South Dakota Mines is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Hardrocker Volleyball Invitational in Rapid City. In the first three matches, they swept Lake Superior State, Minnesota Crookston and Chadron State. In the weekend finale, the Rockers fell 3-1 to Jamestown.

Lexi Glendenning picked up 42 kills with a 3.23 kills per set average over the weekend. Cate Warren averaged 2.85 kills, while Maria Bouman recorded 2.46 kills per set. On the defensive side, Ivy Vindivich recorded 4.33 digs per set to lead the team. Bouman picked up 13 blocks, while Grace Mak had 12 for the Hardrockers.

Weekend Information

All the weekend information can be found at the Tournament Central page at gomountainlions.com. They will take on UCCS on Friday at 11:30 a.m., followed by Michigan Tech at 4:30 p.m. The Rockers will wrap-up the weekend against St. Edward's on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Midwestern State at 4:30 p.m.

What's Next

RMAC play starts next weekend as the Hardrockers host Western Colorado on Sept. 11 and Fort Lewis on Sept. 12. They will go to CSU Pueblo and Colorado Christian on Sept. 18-19.
