LAKEWOOD, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Volleyball fell 3-2 to Colorado Christian in their second-straight five set match.
After Colorado Christian won the first set, the Hardrockers answered with a second set 25-23 victory. They went out to a 9-3 early lead but the Cougars responded with a seven-point run to go up 10-9. With a late 21-19 deficit, the Rockers recorded a 6-2 run to win 25-23.
South Dakota Mines went up 2-1 in the match following a 25-22 win in the third set. The Cougars took the early lead and held a 15-11 advantage midway through the set. An 8-1 Rockers run flipped the script to give them a 21-18 lead. Both teams went back-and-forth as the Hardrockers won 25-22.
With a 2-1 advantage, Colorado Christian would win the fourth set 25-23 to tie the match. The Hardrockers made a comeback in the fifth set but the Cougars put up four straight kills to end the match and win 15-13.
Lexi Glendenning put up 19 kills and two blocks.
Cate Warren recorded 14 kills and
Joy Aburto collected 11.
Ivy Vindivich totaled 19 digs, nine kills, two aces and one block.
Campbell Sheffield had a season-high 26 digs, while
Emily Henderson tallied 28 assists and 19 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
The Hardrockers hit for .204 with 65 total kills. They put up 87 digs, 61 assists, seven blocks and seven aces in the match.
What's Next
The 9-3 Hardrockers go to Chadron State to start the RMAC Regional Pod on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. They come back home to face Black Hills State on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
