Men's Basketball to Conclude 2025-26 Season with Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Men's Basketball is back home for their last weekend of the season against Colorado Mesa on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Western Colorado on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Series History

Colorado Mesa is 10-1 all-time against South Dakota Mines dating back to 2016. The lone Hardrocker win came on Jan. 3, 2020, at the King Center. Since then, the Mavericks have picked up five straight victories against the Rockers.

In 15 total matchups, the Mountaineers are 9-6 all-time against the Hardrockers. Both teams have split their last four games. The Rockers have won their last four games against Western Colorado at the King Center. The Mountaineers defeated the Hardrockers 81-74 on Jan. 22.

About the Mavericks

Colorado Mesa is 18-8 overall and 14-4 in the RMAC this season. They ranked eighth in the latest NCAA DII South Central region rankings and second in the RMAC. After winning seven straight RMAC games, they went 1-1 last weekend after falling to Westminster and defeating Western Colorado.

Ty Allred leads the Mavericks with 18.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Clayton Jewell is second with 11.3 points and 7.1 rebounds this season. Colorado Mesa is second in the RMAC with a team 49.1 field goal percentage. They are first in both team three-point and free throw percentage.

About the Mountaineers

Western Colorado comes into the weekend 8-18 overall and 6-12 in the RMAC. Following an 85-77 win over Fort Lewis on Feb. 14, the Mountaineers have lost two straight games against Westminster and Colorado Mesa. They have lost three of their last four games.

Aidan McDowell is first in NCAA DII and second in all NCAA divisions with 26.7 points per game this season. He has 695 total points scored on 46.7 field goal shooting and 38.8 three-point shooting. Tyler Halligan leads the forwards with 4.8 rebounds per game.

About the Hardrockers

South Dakota Mines is back home with a 9-17 overall record and 6-12 RMAC record. They fell in both games last weekend at New Mexico Highlands and Fort Lewis. Their last victory was a 75-70 win on Jan. 24 at Westminster. The Hardrockers are eliminated from playoff contention going into the weekend.

Jason Lee is first on the team and fourth in the RMAC with 17.9 points per game this season. His 5.7 assists per game rank 11th in NCAA DII. Ryan Sweeney is averaging 13.4 points, while Gray Thompson has 10.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the Hardrockers. The Rockers' 9.2 three-pointer made per game is third in the conference.
