SPEARFISH, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Men's Basketball was defeated by #19 Black Hills State 90-64 on Saturday night.
The Yellow Jackets outscored the Hardrockers 43-34 in the first half. With an early 2-7 deficit,
Darren Wallace and
Gray Thompson hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game.
Fred Libby tied the game again at 10-10. Black Hills State made it 24-18 with 9:30 left.
With a seven-point deficit at the 8:33 mark, the Rockers went on a 6-0 run to make it 27-28. A Yellow Jackets 12-0 run made the score 40-27 late in the half.
Ryan Sweeney recorded four consecutive points at the end of the half, making the score 34-43.
Black Hills State won the second half 47-30, defeating the Hardrockers 90-64. They started out the half with an 11-0 run, making the score 54-34. The Yellow Jackets held their 20-point lead midway through the half. The Yellow Jackets won 90-64 over the Rockers.
Jason Lee recorded 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Luke Baltz and Libby both picked up 10 points. Sweeney dished out three assists for the Rockers.
The Hardrockers recorded 32 points in the paint, 21 bench points and 17 points off turnovers.
South Dakota Mines moved to 9-11 overall and 6-6 in the RMAC with the loss.
What's Next
South Dakota Mines will stay on the road next weekend to face UCCS and Colorado Christian. They are back home to take on Regis on Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
