RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Men's Basketball dominated Adams State 87-67 on Saturday afternoon at the King Center.
The Hardrockers outscored the Grizzlies 47-36 in the first half. After the Grizzlies scored the first five points, the Rockers answered as they tied the game at 9-9. An 8-0 run made the score 17-9 with 14:04 left. South Dakota Mines extended their lead to 33-18 after
Luke Baltz landed a three-pointer.
Baltz hit another three-pointer with 9:38 left. After the Grizzlies made it a 10-point game, a 5-0 run made it 43-28 late in the half. Adams State put up three straight points at the end of the half, making the score 47-36 at halftime.
In the second half, South Dakota Mines outscored Adams State 40-31 to win 87-67. The Grizzlies made it a five-point game with 14:47 left. A 14-2 Hardrocker run made the score 65-48 midway through the second half.
Ryan Sweeney made it a 77-54 game with 6:39 left. The Hardrockers shut down the Adams State offense and kept it a 20-point game until the end of the half.
Brayden Swanson hit a jumper to end the game.
Six different Hardrockers had 10 or more points in the game. Sweeney led the Rockers with 21 points. He was 6-for-13 from the field with five rebounds.
Gray Thompson recorded 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting. Four of his 10 rebounds were on the offensive side.
Jason Lee had a double-double with 10 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and one steal.
Gavin Soukup, Baltz and
Fred Libby all had 10 points for the Hardrockers.
Guido Wanschelbaum collected six rebounds and five points.
Martin Poznanovic had five rebounds, including four offensive rebounds.
South Dakota Mines shot 39.1% from the field, 48.1% from three-point range and 90.9% from the free throw line. They had 44 rebounds, 19 assists, 24 points in the paint and 19 bench points.
What's Next
The Hardrockers will be on the road for five of the next games, starting with Western Colorado on Thursday and Westminster on Saturday. They return home on Jan. 29 to face Chadron State at 7:30 p.m.
