Hardrocker Men's Basketball Back Home This Weekend for Skyhawks and Grizzlies

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Men's Basketball is back home to play Fort Lewis on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Adams State on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Series History

Fort Lewis is 4-11 all-time against South Dakota Mines. They have won six games in a row, including three at the King Center. The last Hardrocker win came on Jan. 4, 2022, at the King Center. They won that game 94-78 over the Skyhawks.

Against Adams State, the Hardrockers are 6-8 dating back to 2013. Adams State won their lone matchup last season 76-65 in Alamosa, Colorado. The Hardrockers have won six of the last eight games against the Grizzlies.

About the Skyhawks

Fort Lewis is off to a historic start to their season with an 8-5 overall record and 6-0 RMAC record, putting them in sole possession of first place. Four of their five losses came against teams ranked or receiving votes in the top 25. Their best win of the season was an 81-68 win over St. Mary's on Dec. 17.

Stewart Erhart leads the Skyhawks with 16.7 points per game with a 44.8 three-point percentage. Choul Deng ranks third in the RMAC with 8.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, the Skyhawks ranks second in the RMAC in steals, third in turnover margin and fourth in rebounds per game.

About the Grizzlies

Coming into the weekend, Adams State is 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the RMAC. While they hold a 6-0 home record, they are 3-5 on the road this season. Last weekend, they defeated Westminster and Colorado Mesa in dominant fashion, averaging 96.5 points per game between the wins.

Luke Williams is averaging 15.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Grizzlies. Wyatt Helming is averaging 8.0 rebounds per game, the fourth-best average in the RMAC. While their offense is second in the RMAC with 86.6 points per game, their defense is 14th at 85.3 points given up per game.

About the Hardrockers

South Dakota Mines comes back home after a 1-1 weekend at MSU Denver and Colorado School of Mines. After defeating the Roadrunners 68-62 on Thursday, they fell to the Orediggers 72-88 on Saturday afternoon. Abel Hutchinson tallied 19 points and nine rebounds on Thursday at MSU Denver. Jason Lee put up 19 points, four rebounds and four assists on Saturday.

Lee is averaging 18.9 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game and 5.6 assists per game this season. Ryan Sweeney leads the team with his 52.8 field goal percentage and 51.5 three-point percentage. South Dakota Mines' 35.9 three-point percentage is third in the RMAC this season, while their 75.1 free throw percentage is second.

Thursday night against Fort Lewis is Blackout Night at the King Center. All fans are encouraged to wear black to support the Hardrockers.

What's Next

The Hardrockers will go on the road for five of the next six games after this weekend. After their contests at Western Colorado and Westminster next weekend, they will return home on Jan. 29 to face Chadron State.
