GOLDEN, Colo. – South Dakota Mines Men's Basketball fell to Colorado School of Mines to end their two-game road trip.
Colorado School of Mines had everything working in the first half as they led 50-21 after 20 minutes. The Orediggers dominated the first 13 minutes as they led 33-5 with 7:02 left in the half. South Dakota Mines began scoring towards the end of the half as
Ryan Sweeney and
Darren Wallace combined for five points near the end of the half. An Orediggers layup gave them a 29-point lead after the first half.
In the second, the Hardrockers attempted a comeback but fell short as they outscored the Orediggers 51-38. An 8-0 Hardrockers run in the middle of the half brought it to a 21-point game.
Jason Lee hit two three-pointers in that run.
Gavin Soukup drained a trey and Lee put in two more to make the score 53-70 with 8:52 left.
A dunk from Sweeney made the score 59-73 with just over five minutes left in the game. However, Colorado School of Mines made their shots at the end of the half to win 88-72 over the Hardrockers.
Lee led the Hardrockers with 19 points. He was 6-for-13 from the field with four rebounds and four assists. Lee made four three-point shots in seven attempts. Sweeney recorded 16 points, two rebounds and two assists on 6-for-13 field goal shooting. Soukup picked up 13 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Gray Thompson had eight rebounds, while
Abel Hutchinson grabbed seven.
South Dakota Mines moved to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the RMAC after the loss.
What's Next
The Hardrockers return home this weekend to take on top-ranked Fort Lewis on Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. They take on Adams State on Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. before a two-game road trip at Western Colorado and Westminster next weekend.
