Men's Basketball Looks to Get in the Win Column in Denver

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's basketball team is looking to get back in the win column this week and begin a streak to end the season.
 
Their first chance will be at Regis on Thursday before heading to MSU Denver on Saturday.

GETTING DEFENSIVE
South Dakota Mines has been strong on the defensive side of the ball all season long and allows just 67.3 points per game to their opponents, a number that leads the RMAC and is top 35 in NCAA Division II.
 
HANDLING THE BALL
The Hardrockers also do a great job of holding onto the ball and not turning it over, averaging just 11.5 turnovers per game.
 
GUIDO IS GOOD
Guido Wanschelbaum has continued to improve throughout his two seasons at South Dakota Mines and had one of his most impressive weeks to date. He scored 19 points and nine rebounds in the contest against UCCS and shot 5-9 against CCU, adding eight rebounds.
 
SCOUTING REGIS
Regis has had a strong season in RMAC play and has been on fire, winning nine in a row, including defeating Colorado School of Mines for their lone RMAC defeat. Regis is second in the league with a 12-2 record in RMAC play and 14-8 overall.
 
Regis is a very dangerous team from the three-point line. They hit 38.3% of their shots and make 9.1 per game, both of which are in the top three in the league.
 
They shoot it well overall, not just from downtown, as their effective field goal percentage is 56.7%, third in the RMAC.
 
Kobe Sanders and Chase Mayo Harmon are a dangerous duo. Sanders is second in the league with an assist/turnover ratio of 2.0 and leads the conference in assists, averaging 4.4 per contest.
 
Mayo Harmon averages 16.4 points per game, second in the league on 44.9% shooting.
Sanders also hits 45.5% of his threes, while both men are in the top five in the league in three-pointers made.
 
SCOUTING MSU DENVER
The Roadrunners of MSU Denver are right behind Regis in league play. They are third in the conference with an RMAC mark of 10-4. Overall, they are 16-6.
 
As a team, MSU Denver likes to get up and down and score. They average nearly 80 points per game, third in the RMAC, and are also first in the league in three-point shooting and second in rebounding.
 
Brayden Carter is their top threat offensively, as he averages 15 points per game.
In addition to Carter, Caleb McGill has been a terror in the RMAC for years. He is currently fifth in blocks and fourth in rebounding.
 
Carter also averages 8.1 rebounds per game, second in the conference.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The men's basketball team continues on the road next week. The road trip continues as they take on Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado on road trips on Thursday, Feb. 20, and Saturday, Feb. 22.
