RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Men's Basketball fell to (RV) Fort Hays State to end their three-game homestand.
The Tigers outscored the Hardrockers 39-31 in the first half.
Tre Dowdell had the first four points for the Hardrockers with a three-pointer and a made free throw.
Guido Wanschelbaum hit a three-pointer after a Tigers 6-0 run. He hit another one later to give South Dakota Mines a 12-10 lead.
Both teams were tied 20-20 with eight minutes left in the half. A Tigers run at the end of the half gave them a 39-31 lead. Lucas Hammeke drained a three-points with 24 seconds left in the half.
Fort Hays State won 68-52 following a 29-21 second half. An 8-0 Tigers run made it 55-40 with 7:59 left in the game. The Hardrockers attempted a comeback, but the Tigers were able to pull off the win 68-52.
Jason Lee led the way for South Dakota Mines with 15 points. He added three rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block. Dowdell totaled nine points, while
Gray Thompson had eight points and five rebounds. Wanschelbaum recorded eight points and six rebounds.
The Hardrockers shot 30% from the field and 25% from three-point range. They had 20 points in the paint and 31 total rebounds.
What's Next
South Dakota Mines is back in action this weekend to face Augustana and MSU Moorhead, both at MSU Moorhead. After that, they will go to UMary to face the Marauders and Minot State on Nov. 28-29. They return home on Dec. 2 to play Black Hills State.
