RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Volleyball took down Black Hills State on Tuesday night 3-0 at the King Center.
The Hardrockers dominated the first set with a 25-9 win over the Yellow Jackets. Through the first 20 points, South Dakota Mines took a 15-5 lead. A four point run was guided by three straight
Joy Aburto kills. To end the set, the Hardrockers went on a 10-4 run to win 25-9. Aburto had six kills in the set.
In the second set, Black Hills State responded but the Hardrockers pulled away with a 25-23 victory. With a 10-8 lead, the Yellow Jackets went on an 8-1 run to go up 16-11. Black Hills State would go up 22-18 at the end of the set. The Hardrockers recorded a 7-1 run to end the set and win 25-23. They had five kills in that run.
South Dakota Mines won the third set 25-16 to sweep the Yellow Jackets. The Hardrockers went ahead 9-5 early in the set. An 8-2 run later in the set made the score 23-14. The Hardrockers closed it out with an
Ivy Vindivich kill to win 26-16 over Black Hills State.
Aburto led the match with 12 kills. She recorded two digs, one block and a .393 hitting percentage. Vindivich totaled eight kills, one block and 13 digs.
Maria Bouman hit for .545 with seven kills and three blocks.
Hannah Benes collected 20 digs, four aces and two assists.
Hannah Joseph tallied 22 assists and four digs.
As a team, the Hardrockers recorded 47 kills and a .369 hitting percentage compared to Black Hills State's 28 kills and .127 hitting percentage. South Dakota Mines had 51 digs, 38 assists and eight service aces.
With the win, the Hardrockers improved to 10-14 overall and 7-5 in the RMAC.
What's Next
South Dakota Mines is set to play Westminster on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at the King Center. The Griffins are tied with the Hardrockers for seventh place in the conference. They will face Colorado Mesa on Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. for Senior Night.
