Hardrocker Volleyball Ready for Cowgirls and Grizzlies at Home

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Volleyball is back at home this weekend for Family Weekend to face New Mexico Highlands on Friday and Adams State on Saturday.

Series History

South Dakota Mines is 6-4 all-time against New Mexico Highlands. The Hardrockers have won four straight matches against the Cowboys, including a 3-0 sweep at the King Center last season.

Adams State is 7-5 all-time versus South Dakota Mines. These two teams played back on Sept. 13 in a non-conference match in Kearney, Nebraska. The Grizzlies won that contest 3-1. At the King Center, the Hardrockers are 3-2 all-time against Adams State.

About the Cowgirls

New Mexico Highlands is 7-10 overall and 2-4 in the RMAC this season. While they are 3-2 at home, they are 1-5 away from Las Vegas, New Mexico. Last weekend, they swept both Regis and Chadron State at the John A. Wilson Complex. They fell 1-3 at Eastern New Mexico on Monday.

Arianna Jamerson leads the Cowgirls offense with 170 kills and 2.70 kills per set. Defensively, Becca Wiersema's 4.05 digs per set ranks seventh in the RMAC so far this season. New Mexico Highlands was picked to finish 14th in the RMAC Preseason Poll.

About the Grizzlies

Adams State holds an 8-9 overall record and 3-3 RMAC record going into the weekend. In three games on the road this season, the Grizzlies are 0-3. However, they are on a four-game winning streak with wins over New Mexico Highlands, Fort Lewis, Chadron State and Regis. Their last loss was on Sept. 26 at Colorado School of Mines.

Hadleigh Richardson is coming off her second RMAC Player of the Week award after she totaled 46 kills last weekend. She is first in the RMAC and 10th in NCAA DII with 4.37 kills per set. Adams State was picked tied for ninth in the RMAC Preseason Poll.

About the Hardrockers

Through 16 contests, South Dakota Mines is 4-12 and 2-4 in the RMAC this season. On their road trip last weekend, the Hardrockers went 0-2 against (RV) UCCS and #12 MSU Denver. At the King Center this season, South Dakota Mines is 2-2 with wins over both Black Hills State and Chadron State in the RMAC Regional Pod.

Freshman Lexi Glendenning is averaging 3.34 kills per set, the most on the Hardrockers so far this season. Morgan Daugherty is behind her with 3.12 kills per set. Defensively, Kiera Walsh's 40 blocks lead the team. Hannah Benes is averaging 4.73 digs per set with 284 total digs, the most in the RMAC. The Hardrockers were picked fourth in the RMAC Preseason Poll.

This weekend is Family Weekend at South Dakota Mines. Friday's match is Faculty and Staff Appreciation, while Saturday is Camper Night.

What's Next

South Dakota Mines will go on the road for five straight contests, starting at Regis and Chadron State next weekend. They will go to Denver to play Colorado Mesa and MSU Denver in the RMAC Power Pod on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. After a contest at Colorado School of Mines on Nov. 8, the Hardrockers return home on Nov. 11 to face Black Hills State.
