Hardrocker Football Returns Home to Face Orediggers

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines Football is set to host Colorado School of Mines on Saturday at 12 p.m. to open a three-game homestand.

Series History

In 25 all-time matchups with the Orediggers, the Hardrockers are 1-24 dating back to 1917. The lone Hardrockers win came on Oct. 14, 2017, at O'Harra Stadium. Since then, the Orediggers have won every matchup by 20 or more points. Last season in Golden, Colorado, Colorado School of Mines topped the Hardrockers 45-20. The winning team in this matchup has scored 37 or more points in every game of the series since 1997.

About the Orediggers

Colorado School of Mines comes into this game with a 3-2 overall record and 1-2 RMAC record. In the Nyikos Cup Battle against Colorado Mesa last week, the Mavericks staged a fourth quarter comeback to win 28-24 over the Orediggers. Quarterback Joseph Capra was 22-for-28 with 216 yards and two touchdowns for Mines.

Receiver Pierce Richards is fifth in the RMAC with his 64.8 reception yards per game. He leads the Orediggers with his 324 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Landon Walker has 474 rushing yards with three touchdowns, while Capra has 287 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The Orediggers were picked third in the RMAC Preseason Poll.

About the Hardrockers

After starting the season 0-4, South Dakota Mines won two games in a row to improve to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the RMAC. After completing a comeback over Fort Lewis on Sept. 27, the Hardrockers won the 140th Black Hills Brawl last week 27-13. Ty Harris recorded 159 yards on the ground with two touchdowns for South Dakota Mines. Lane Thomas snagged two interceptions to guide the Hardrockers to the win.

Gage Baker is third in the RMAC with his 1,261 passing yards this season. He has a 63.3 completion percentage with eight passing touchdowns. Jacoby Ogbonna is fifth in the conference with 362 receiving yards. On defense, Will Lester is fourth in the RMAC with 49 total tackles made. His 33 solo tackles are ninth in NCAA Division II. Thomas has two interceptions and 23 tackles in the secondary.
