Volleyball Heads to Black Hills State for Second Tournament on Friday and Saturday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines Volleyball team is back in action for a tournament this weekend, only a little closer to home as they are in Spearfish, South Dakota playing two matches on Friday and another two on Saturday.

MEONI MASHES
Alessandra Meoni continued her first tournament the way she performed much of last season, hitting double-digit kills and over .270 in three of four matches. 
 
SOPHOMORE SPENCER
As a sophomore, Ellison Spencer appears as if she might get more court time and played well against Alaska Anchorage and Northwest Missouri State, combining for 46 assists in the two matches along with 13 digs in the first and nine in the second. 
 
MONSTERS IN THE MIDDLE
Annelise Larson and Kiera Walsh each started strong in the middle, recording 10 blocks in the four matches to open the season.
 
Scouting Minnesota Crookston
The Golden Eagles split their first tournament of the season, winning two against Cal State East Bay and Eastern New Mexico, falling to CSU Pueblo and Lubbock Christian.
 
Freshman Setter Baily Teveldal and sophomore attacker, Maya Jones earned spots on the all-tournament team.
 
Teveldal had 122 assists in the opening weekend, raking ninth in the NSIC and connected on seven service aces, also sitting tenth in the Northern Sun.
 
Jones finished with 45 kills for 3 kills per set, to go along with a .291 hitting percentage to all sit in the top-25 in the nation at the NCAA Division II level. 
 
Scouting MSU Billings
MSU Billings started off their season on a winning note, picking up three wins in their home tournament, defeating Minot State twice and Black Hills State once, while falling to Black Hills State in the final matchup.
 
The Yellowjackets have a trio of women who have been dangerous on the attack with Jordin Taulua, Jahsita Fa'ali'I and Julia Gordan each averaging over 2.6 kills per set, but their hitting percentage are not as good, as they are each hitting .178, .221 and .267.
 
Kenzie Nealon blocked 10 attacks to start the year, with Gordon and Taulua behind her with eight and seven. 
 
Addie Allen is their main setter as she had 117 assists in the opening matches. 

Scouting Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls Started their season with tough competition at the Kansas City Classic taking on Washburn and Rockhurst who were both receiving votes, while also taking on William Jewell and Emporia State, going 1-3 on the weekend. 
 
Sadie Voss is their main hitter, getting 54 kills on a hitting percentage of .291 to open the season, while Abby Haus and Jordan Kuper each had 42 kills on .356 and .379 hitting.
 
Kuper was big in the middle, picking up 17 blocks through the four matches.
 
Elise Gillen and Liz Kopp are their main setters, assisting on 118 and 54 attacks on the weekend.
 
Scouting Eastern New Mexico
Eastern New Mexico did not have a good start to their season, going 0-4 in the opening weekend and picking up just one set win against Minnesota Crookston. 
 
Darcy Dodd and Sophia Valdez were their top hitters, combining for 59 kills.
