RAPID CITY, S.D. – On Friday evening, the Hardrocker men's basketball team took on Regis in a night of celebration as it was scholar athlete night.
Unfortunately, Regis ruined the celebration for the men's basketball team as they get out to an early lead and won by double-digits improving to 13-11 and 10-8 in league play while the Hardrockers still sit in the eight spot in the RMAC playoff picture and are now 9-14 and 7-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Early in the game, the Hardrockers and Rangers were within striking distance of each other, with Regis holding a 17-12 lead, but then Regis would get some momentum, outscoring the Hardrockers 13-8 over the next 10 minutes, taking a 34-20 lead.
South Dakota Mines would fight back, scoring nine in a row, to cut the deficit to five, 34-29 with just under two minutes to go in the half and the deficit would remain the same going into halftime with Regis leading, 36-31.
In the second half, Regis would start fast and expand their lead to 15, 58-43. The Hardrockers would fight and bring the game down into single-digits multiple times, but Regis would expand it back to 14 with 3:52 to play. Despite the play of Alejandro Rama, South Dakota Mines was not able to muster up enough to complete a comeback, falling 82-68.
