Volleyball Clinches Home Playoff Game on Tuesday with Sweep

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines volleyball team stayed undefeated at the King Center this season with a 3-0 victory over Westminster.

That wasn't all they did, however, as the win clinched a home playoff game for the Hardrockers on Tuesday night. That game will be played at 7:00 p.m. The opponent is still to be determined, and tickets will go on sale once that is finalized.

It was a relatively tightly contested match, as each set was within three points, but South Dakota Mines did what they needed to win all of them and earn the sweep to move to 17-8 and 10-3 in the RMAC. They also stayed undefeated at 8-0 at the King Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set went back and forth, and Westminster got out to multiple three-point leads late in the set, but a three-point Hardrocker run tied it at 23. A kill by Alessandra Meoni and a Hannah Benes ace completed the late rally, winning the set in extra points, 27-25.

The second set was also a battle, requiring another late rally from the Hardrockers, who trailed 22-19 before taking over. Four kills by Meoni, along with a kill by Jenna Curtis, carried the Hardrockers over the line with a 6-0 run to take the set 25-22.

In the final set, it was once again a tight one decided by clutch play from South Dakota Mines. Ivy Vindivich got three kills to spark a 4-0 run, giving SDM a 22-19 lead. SDM went on to win it 25-22.

NOTES
Alessandra Meoni hit .375 with 14 kills and a double-double as she got 15 digs as well...Kiley Metzger hit .385 and had 29 assists…Ivy Vindivich had 11 kills as the only other Hardrocker in double digits…Hannah Benes and Rachel Mau tallied 16 and 10 digs.
