Two Golfers Earn GCAA Academic Honors

NORMAN, Okla. --- A pair of male golfers from South Dakota Mines were named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar team announced on Wednesday morning. 
 
Roger Nakagawa and Joseph Vincent were the Hardrockers to earn recognition.
 
Nakagawa finished his Hardrocker career near the top of the record books in several categories on the course including scoring average, par or better rounds, counting scores, birdies, and eagles. This is in addition to being a 2x RMAC All-Academic selection.
 
Vincent has also been stellar on the course during his time at South Dakota Mines. As of now, he holds school records in low 54-hole total, average scoring, par or better rounds, and finish percentage. Vincent is also third in birdies. Academically, he has earned two RMAC All-Academic selections in addition to being named a GCAA All-American Scholar in 2021-22.
 
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior, or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
 
Nakagawa finished his South Dakota Mines academic career with a degree in mechanical engineering.
 
Vincent is majoring in biomedical engineering.
