Golf Announces 8 Additions for 2023

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines golf team has announced eight signings for the 2023 class with head coach Luke Wheeler announcing the addition of Brycen Farris, Alex Makarchuk, Jack Sabetti, and Tyler White for the men's program. The women's program added four student-athletes with Kyra Allen, Allison Kahler, Addiley Lloyd, and Kenzie Schroeder joining the program.

"We are very excited about this incoming freshman class for next year," said Director of Golf, Luke Wheeler. "All are quality scholar-athletes that will compete right away, and I look forward to seeing this class carry on the success we are having this year and continue to move the program forward!"

Brycen Farris comes from Windsor, Colo. During his career, he was named all-conference and all-state while also being an academic all-state honoree. "Brycen is a freshman that I envision competing next year," said Wheeler. "Brycen is a mid-70s player right now but with focus on one sport, has the potential to shoot low 70s consistently."

Alex Makarchuk, a lefty from Canada will major in atmospheric and environmental sciences, in hopes of becoming a meteorologist. "Alex is a mid-70s player that will do good thing here at South Dakota Mines both on and off the course," said Wheeler. "I look forward to him being able to step in right away and compete."

Jack Sabetti, the younger brother of current South Dakota Mines women's golfer Julia Sabetti will be a metallurgical engineering major, and is from Lakeville, Minn. Wheeler stated, "He will benefit from playing year-round next year, and will be a great addition to the Hardrocker golf program."

Tyler White is the final addition to the men's golf team for 2023 and he hails from Morrison, Colo. "Tyler placed 19th at the 4A state championships in Colorado and helped his school to a 10th place finish as a team, both very impressive marks in that state," said Wheeler.

Kyra Allen will join the women's program next year, hails from Phoenix, and is a Civil engineering major. Wheeler spoke of Allen, "She was a team MVP at Sandra Day O'Connor High School and has the ability to shoot in the 70s, I am really looking forward to what the future holds for her."

Allison Kahler is a local from western South Dakota, hailing from Bison. Wheeler stated, "She knows the courses and elements well, being from here and helping her team to a class B championship last spring." Wheeler continued, "I can't wait to see her on the course in college."

Addiley Lloyd joins the program as one of the top golfers in the state of Montana as she was an all-conference, and all-state selection. She is also the second sibling to join the program for 2023, as her older brother, Ramey Lloyd is a current member of the men's golf team. Wheeler is excited to add Lloyd, stating "She is one of the top golfers in the state of Montana, captaining Gallatin High school and finishing second in the AA high school state tournament.

The last addition to the women's program for this class is Kenzie Schroeder from Hicksville, OH. She was a multi-sport athlete in high school, also playing basketball, and will major in Biomedical Engineering. "Kenzie is a natural athlete on and off the course," said Wheeler. "She stands 6'1 and on the course, she swings it from the left side and has a low-to-mid 80s average. I'm excited to see what she can do with golf as the lone focus in sports."

Each of the 8 student-athletes will join the program for fall camp for the 2023 season.
