Hardrocker Volleyball has Split Road Games to Start RMAC Play

SPEARFISH, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball team will square off against rival Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. on Tuesday night. The match will begin at 7:00 PM in the Donald Young Event Center.
The Hardrockers played well in Sioux Falls, S.D. last weekend going 2-2 at the Augustana Volleyball Classic. The Hardrockers earned wins over Truman State and Minnesota State University Moorhead and pushed RV Augustana to five sets.

Series History

vs. Black Hills State
  • This will be the 70th match in the series since 1995.
  • During those years, the Yellowjackets hold a 48-21 edge.
  • Black Hills State has won seven in a row in Spearfish.
  • Most recently, the Hardrockers snapped a losing streak, defeating Black Hills State 3-2 (9/28/2021).
vs. Western Colorado
  • These two teams started their series in 2014 and have met a total of nine times.
  • The Mountaineers hold a 7-2 edge.
  • Currently, Western Colorado is on a three-game winning streak in the series.
  • Most recently, the Mountaineers defeated the Hardrockers in a five-set battle in Gunnison (10/23/2021).
Gold Nuggets
  • The Hardrocker Volleyball team has started the season 3-5, but really hit their stride midway through their first tournament, playing well at the Augustana Classic, earning a split and pushing host, RV Augustana to five sets.
  • South Dakota Mines has done a good job limiting opponent attacks, allowing them to convert just .184% of the time, the fifth best mark in the RMAC.
  • The Hardrockers have made this happen by keeping balls off the floor, digging 14.86 balls per set, again fifth in the conference.
  • South Dakota Mines swept MSU Moorhead and Truman State at the Augustana Classic.
  • In the most recent matchup against MSU Moorhead, the Hardrockers were dominant in sets two and three after battling for an extra point win in the first. Jacey Koethe and Kiley Metzger led the team with 18 kills and 46 assists.

Black Hills State
  • Black Hills State has not started the season well, sitting with a 1-7 record and having lost six in a row.
  • The Yellowjackets sit in the middle of the pack in the RMAC in opponent hitting percentage (eighth) and blocks (ninth).
  • They average 15.53 digs per set, the fifth best mark in the conference.
  • Madison Hoopman is 11th in the RMAC in attacking with 3.24 kills per set.
  • Haedyn Rhoades lead the conference, averaging 5.60 digs per set.
Western Colorado
  • Western Colorado has started hte year with a 1-6 record and lost their last two matches at the Toro Classic 3-0.
  • The Mountaineers do a good job of blocking opponent attacks as they average 1.74 blocks per set, putting them in the top third of the RMAC.
  • Jaeda Davis-Golliher is fifth in the RMAC in hitting percentage (.320).
  • Emily Mangon is averaging .45 aces per set (seventh RMAC)
