DURANGO, Colo. --- South Dakota Mines women's basketball traveled to Durango, Colo. to play the Skyhawks from Fort Lewis College on Friday afternoon. The Rockers would drop the game to the Skyhawks 77-67.
How it Happened – The Hardrockers trailed early in the game until Pipe Bauer hit a three-pointer to go up 5-4. The Skyhawks regained the lead later in the quarter and led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Skyhawks would score 24 points in the second quarter leading the Hardrockers 43-29 at the end of the half. Bauer scored 10 points in the first half to lead the Hardrockers.
The 'Rockers fought back into the game in the third quarter scoring 21 points.
Madelyn Heiser's three-pointer with 5:14 left brought the Hardrockers to within nine 48-39. South Dakota Mines got to within six points in the quarter. Bauer would hit a three at the end of the quarter and the Hardrockers trailed 57-50.
Piper Bauer would get the scoring started for the Hardrockers in the fourth quarter, scoring her 16th and 17th points of the game. Bauer would continue to pace the 'Rockers as she hit a three moments later, keeping the deficit at seven. Bauer would continue to score and try to keep the Hardrockers in the game. It would not be enough as Lanae Billy, Kelsey Sorenson, and the Skyhawks claimed the win, 77-67
Notes – Bauer led all scorers with 28 points, hitting 6-10 from the three-point line…Heiser chipped in 13 points…Bauer and Durtsche led the team in rebounding with six each.
