Several Records Fall on Day 2 in Billings as Women Win

BILLINGS, Mont. --- The South Dakota Mines golf teams finished up at the MSU Billings Yellowjacket Invite the same way they started, with another day of great play and several records falling.

The women's A team shot a 324 in round two which would have matched the previous school record for low round if not for the scorching 310 they shot in round one. Their two-day total of 634 shattered the teams previous record for low-36 which was 660 at last years RMAC Championships and picked up the team win as a result.

Rianna Garland continued her impressive play, claiming a second straight individual title – a record for wins in a season - after winning at the Hardrocker Fall Invite last time out. She shot a 76 to finish with a two-day total of 154, and finish two strokes ahead of teammate Annika Schooler who shot a 156 to claim second place. Mya Maxwell and Lora Ortega finished in eight and ninth, with two-day totals of 162 and 163. Summer Christiansen rounded out the team with a 165.

With the women's team win – Luke Wheeler now has 3 wins on the women's side and six overall, both highs for coaches at South Dakota Mines.

The B team had four top-25 finishes in Taylor Ullen (T20, 175), Julia Sabetti (T20, 175), Portia Lenczowski (T22, 176) and Jessalyn Shipp (T25, 178). Megan Alexander shot a 181 to finish in a tie for 29th.

The men's A team shot a phenomenal round, scoring a 285 to set a new round record, but it also was good enough to break the low 36-hole and low 54-hole records (579, 874) and give them a second place finish.

Individually, Roger Nakagawa set the low round record-shooting a 66 and finished in third with 214 strokes – two back of teammate Joseph Vincent who shot a 70 on the day and a 212 in the tournament, finishing second. Carson McDaniel, Jake Francis and Supawich Boonta finished T12, T22 and T28.

The B team – playing with four was led by Braydon Jones who shot a 221 to tie for eighth. Ramey Lloyd, Everette Carrol and Caeden Ekroth finished in a tie for 19, 31st and 36th.

The women are back at it next week at CSU Pueblo, while the men have a week off before heading to Cameron University.
