Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls Despite Battling UCCS

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The Hardrockers fought in a back-and-forth battle with Colorado Springs, that went down to the final minutes.

In the first half, the two teams were battling back and forth with neither team getting a significant advantage until a Brevin Walter three would give the Hardrockers a game-high 6-point lead with 3:25 to go in the half. Moments later he would hit another, putting South Dakota Mines up 34-27. UCCS would come right back cutting the Hardrocker lead to two with 1:41 to go. Going into halftime, UCCS retook the lead, 37-36.

Early in the second half, the two teams would continue to battle, but UCCS maintained a slim, 44-42 lead. That continued to be the case into the under-10 media timeout with the teams deadlocked at 48 until a Kolten Mortenson layup gave the Hardrockers a two-point advantage. As would be the case throughout the half and the game. Nobody was able to get out to a big lead, but UCCS got a big three from Alijah Comithier to go up 64-58 with just under 4-minutes to play only to be answered by Alejandro Rama to force a timeout. Out of that timeout, however, UCS would score three in a row, leading 67-61 with two minutes to go. The Hardrockers couldn't get their shots to fall in the closing minutes, falling 69-61.
