Hardrockers To Challenge Orediggers On Sunday

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines women's volleyball team hopes to kick off its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule this weekend with a trip to Golden, Colorado, for a Sunday morning matchup against Colorado School of Mines.

The Hardrockers have just one match under their belt, playing a non-conference bout against Chadron State last weekend in Nebraska.

The Eagles defeated South Dakota Mines, 25-18, 28-26, 25-17. The Hardrockers finished with 30 kills, five aces, seven blocks, 26 assists and 32 digs. The Eagles tallied 43 kills, 10 aces, five blocks, 41 assists and 40 digs.

Individually for the 'Rockers, Claire Smith led her team, hitting 30 percent with nine kills on 23 attacks and 10 digs. Jacey Koethe tallied seven kills and was 15-22 on the attack. Shyann Bastian led the team with 17 assists and tacked on four digs and three total blocks. Anna Thomas had 11 digs on the night.

Originally, the 'Rockers had planned to compete in two matches in Lakewood, Colorado, challenging both Adams State and Colorado Christian University in a pod style format. That was postponed due to COVID issues. The CCU game was rescheduled for this coming Saturday, but that too was postponed due to COVID issues.

Colorado School of Mines hosts Sunday's match with a 2-1 record. The Orediggers have dispatched Fort Lewis College and Colorado Christian sandwiched in between a loss to MSU Denver. Taylor Hicken leads the Oredigger offense with 36 kills and Rose Stuewe has 27; Drew Stokes has collected 126 assists so far this season; and Elle Duis leads the team with 56 digs.

Sunday's match is set for a 11 a.m. No fans will be permitted in the gym, but the game will be streamed live on the Hardrocker Network, along with Livestats, by logging onto www.gorockers.com .
