Hardrockers Conclude Homestand In Rematch With CCU

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines women's basketball program is looking to close out a lengthy home stand Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rematch against the Colorado Christian Cougars.
 
The Hardrockers have played six of their last seven games in the friendly confines of the King Center. In that time have amassed a 5-2 record in that stretch, including a first-ever win last Saturday over the Westminster College Griffins, 74-71. The 'Rockers are now 8-7 on the season and 8-6 in the RMAC.
 
SDM heads into Saturday's game averaging 66 ppg while opponents are producing 65.4 ppg. The Hardrockers are shooting 41 percent from the field for the season and making 36 percent of three-pointers so far on the year.
 
Individually, the 'Rockers are paced by Ryan Weiss who is averaging 18.7 ppg and 6.6 rpg. She continues to inch closer to breaching that 1,000-point barrier and is elevating ever closer to most three-pointers made in a career. She needs 18 points to get to 1,000 and 46 more from downtown to tie the all-time three-point record (250). Michaela Shaklee is averaging 8.1 ppg while Naomi Hidalgo is contributing with 7.9 ppg and 6.3 rpg.
 
Colorado Christian Is 2-10 on the season and in the RMAC. They are also 2-4 over their last six games against the Hardrockers. The Cougars won the last contest 76-69 on December 19, 2020.  The Cougars average 62.17 PPG against South Dakota Mines
 
For the Cougars, Brookelyn Hurlbut has been the leader this season as she has led the team in scoring for eight-straight games and has been a constant on the court for the Cougars starting 40 games in a row. She is also leading the team in scoring currently averaging 12.4 points per game.
 
CCU is also getting wonderful production from some first year transfers, Mara Kemmer  as she is cementing herself in the line-up, averaging 20.5 minutes per game and 4.3 points per game. Kemmer also has the best 3-Pt Field Goal Shooting Percentage on the team as she is shooting 53.3% from three. Kemmer was a two-way player at UNLV her freshman year, playing on the softball team hitting .327, with 33 hits, made 15 pitching appearances with a 3-1 record.  
 
Saturday's game is slated for a 2 p.m. tipoff. No fans will be admitted in the gym, but the game will be streamed live on the Hardrocker Network by logging onto www.gorockers.com.
