RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines men's basketball team is looking to snap a three-game skid Saturday afternoon when the Hardrockers play host to the Colorado Christian Cougars during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference bout at the King Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The Rockers had a nice little run going, dating back to when they met CCU the first time on Dec. 19. From that encounter, where SDM came out on top, 74-57, the Hardrockers went on 6-2 trip. Since then, the fell to No. 9 Colorado Mesa, 82-77, in double overtime, followed by a loss to Westminster College, 68-48, last Saturday and then falling to MSU Denver, 70-64, Thursday night.
The 'Rockers are averaging 66.1 ppg while teams are scoring 72.0 ppg. The Hardrockers are shooting 44 percent from the field and cashing in from downtown 33 percent on shots attempted. Individually,
Wilfred Dickson leads the way for SDM, averaging 12.4 ppg while
Brevin Walter has surged over this last stretch and is contributing 12.0 ppg.
Alejandro Rama puts up 11.3 ppg and
Kolten Mortensen dishes in 10.5 ppg and lead the team in rebounds with 7.4 rpg.
The Cougars have just one win on their schedule so far this season back on Dec. 12 against Fort Lewis College (84-79). Since then they have dropped seven in a row. They have also had five postponed games in a row and just recently got back into competition this week, falling to the Roadrunners on Tuesday night, 76-74.
The team is led by Ross Williams, who averages 21.5 ppg, Andy Stafford contributes 17.6 ppg, and Justin Engesser tosses in 10.8 ppg. The Hardrockers hold the all-time series record 5-2.
