Hardrocker Volleyball Get Back to Winning Ways

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines Volleyball team battled through 2 sets going to extra points and was able to emerge victorious in the sets as well as the match.

In the first set, South Dakota Mines and Adams State battled throughout the set. Adams State got out an early lead, up 9-4 before the Hardrockers would start to bounce back, getting a pair of kills from Victoria Zagorski on the way to cutting the deficit to 13-12. The Grizzlies would expand the lead once again, going up 20-17 before the Hardrockers would run off 6 straight, taking a 23-20 lead. Adams State would fight back down, match point before tying up at 24, then each team would battle into extra points, before the Hardrockers would get a kill from Dejah Behrend, then a block from Jacey Koethe to win the set 30-28.

In the second set, Adams State would once again get out to an early lead, starting with the first four points, before the Hardrockers would come up with 8 in a row. Adams would begin to fight back down 15-10, they would score four in a row, cutting the deficit to 15-14 before another Koethe would put an end to that with a block and a kill. The two teams would then battle back and forth with the Hardrockers maintaining a two-point lead, 19-17. The Grizzlies would retake the lead a bit later, 21-20, and pushed it 22-20 leading to a Hardrocker timeout. Out of the timeout, Behrend and Shyann Bastian combined to get a block surging the Hardrockers to set point at 24-23 and an Adams State timeout. The Hardrockers would go on to win the set 26-24.

In the third set, the Grizzlies once again got out to an early lead, going up 8-5, and would continue to run with that momentum, going up 13-9 leading to a Hardrocker timeout. After the timeout the Grizzlies would continue to expand their lead, going up 19-11 leading to a second South Dakota Mines timeout. The Grizzlies would keep their momentum going throughout the set, closing it out 25-16.

The Grizzlies scored the first 3 points. The Hardrockers were able to battle back, taking a 10-9 lead. Back-to-back blocks would give South Dakota Mines a 13-11 lead. South Dakota Mines had a block party going in the fourth set thanks to Behrend, and Koethe. The Hardrockers would continue to play well expanding their lead to 24-13 for match point. Koethe would get a kill to close out the match 3-1 with a 25-14 fourth set win.

Looking Ahead
The Hardrockers are back at it on Sunday afternoon in a rescheduled game from Friday. They will take on New Mexico Highlands at 3:00.
