Hardrockers Face Griffins To Open RMAC Tournament

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- With the regular season in the books, the South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team now enter post-season competition as the No. 6 seed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. The Hardrockers travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to challenge the third ranked Westminster College Griffins.

This will be the Hardrockers' third appearance in the RMAC tournament since joining the league as well as its highest ranking.

SD Mines and Westminster met just one time this season, way back on December 7 in Utah, where the hosts won the bout, 70-57. The Griffins finished their year with a 22-6 overall record and 17-5 conference mark. They closed out the year winning five in a row.

As a team Westminster are scoring 66.4 ppg and giving up 57.9 ppg. Hunter Krebs leads the offense with 15.7 ppg and Mariah Martin contributes with 15.6 ppg while Sarah McGinley cashes in for 13.1 ppg. On defense, Kaitlin Toluono earns the most rebounds, averaging 8.4 rpg while McGinley pulls down 6.0 rpg.

SD Mines head into the game with a 15-11 overall record and 13-9 showing in the RMAC.  They come into Tuesday's game scoring 68 ppg while the defense allows 59.4 ppg. Ryan Weiss leads the offensive charge with 17.2 ppg while Anna Haugen and Sami Steffeck are both cashing in for just over 10 ppg. Haugen leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 9.9 rpg while Molly McCabe contributes with 6.6 rpg.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced the 2020 RMAC Women's Basketball Tournament bracket after the final regular-season conference games wrapped up on Friday evening.

Friday, March 6 – Semifinals (hosted by the highest remaining seed after QF)
Saturday, March 7 – Championship Game (hosted by the highest remaining seed after QF)

No. 3 – Westminster (17-5 RMAC)

No. 7 – Dixie State (12-10 RMAC)
No. 8 – MSU Denver (12-10 RMAC)
