RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team won't have long to wait to get another crack at Black Hills State as the biggest rivalry in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference will go at again Tuesday night in Spearfish, South Dakota, in the opening round of the RMAC postseason tournament.
After a buzzer-beating three-point basket and point-after this past Friday which lifted the Yellow Jackets over the Hardrockers, 59-58, SD Mines went from hosting a first-round playoff game as the No. 4 seed to the No. 7 seed of the postseason tournament. That pits SD Mines against the No. 2 seed of the tournament --- Black Hills State.
The Yellow Jackets finished the regular season 17-5 in the RMAC and 20-8 overall. The BHSU defense allows only 70 points per game, the fourth lowest in the RMAC. The offense has the second highest shooting percentage in the RMAC from the field at 49 percent. BHSU is led by Joel Scott, who is good 60 percent of the time, averaging 17.4 ppg. Tyler Oliver pulls down 6.9 boards a game while putting up 4.3 assists.
The Hardrockers are making their first-ever appearance in the conference tournament since joining the RMAC. As a team, SD Mines is posting 75.7 ppg on offense while the defense is allowing just 68.3 ppg.
Allec Williams leads the 'Rockers with 16.6 ppg,
Mitchell Sueker contributes with 14.6 ppg and
