RAPID CITY, S.D. --- With their ticket already punched for the RMAC Tournament, the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers can concentrate on the last game of the regular season Friday at the King Center in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
Not only does game pit the Hardrockers against rival Black Hills State, the bout also has some playoff implications as both programs are tied for fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with 13-8 conference records.
If SD Mines wins Friday, they earn fifth place outright. If BHSU wins, the Hardrockers would then be the sixth seed and pending the outcome of other conference matchups will most likely travel to Golden, Colorado for a rematch with Colorado School of Mines or head to Utah to face Westminster College.
South Dakota Mines is coming off a split on the road, falling to University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday (75-68), but bounced back Saturday with an exciting win over Colorado School of Mines (77-75).
Ryan Weiss leads the 'Rockers, averaging 17.6 points per game and 4.3 RPG while
Anna Haugen adds 10.9 PPG and 9.8 RPG. Haugen is just two points away from reaching a college milestone by becoming the 29
th player to breach 1,000 points as a Hardrocker. She also has notched 908 rebounds in her four years of playing at SD Mines and is currently in fifth place all-time. Haugen also ranks 17
th all-time with 216 assists in her career.
Sami Steffeck, who has also scored 1,000 points for the 'Rockers, also holds the record for three-pointers made all-time, heading into Friday's game with 246 from downtown, while fellow senior
Cooper Courtney has 130 in her career for ninth all-time.
Looking at BHSU, the Yellow Jackets are coming off a split on the weekend, with a win over fourth-seeded Colorado School of Mines but taking a one-point loss to UCCS.
Morgan Ham led the Green and Gold, averaging 24 points per game while
Racquel Wientjes averaged 17.5 PPG and
Danica Kocer pulled down 6.5 rebounds per game on the weekend.
BHSU is led by
Wientjes, averaging 16.8 points per conference game and 5.6 RPG.
Ham averages 15.3 PPG and 3 RPG while senior
Abby Switzer puts up 5.9 PPG and pulls down 4.2 RPG. Switzer and sophomore
Ashlee Beacom also add 2 assists per game.
