GOLDEN, Colo. --- Colorado School of Mines fell behind at halftime and never caught up to South Dakota School of Mines as the Hardrockers won 78-73 in a tight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup in Golden, Colorado. The win marked a season sweep of the Orediggers by SD Mines.
The Orediggers (19-9, 15-6 RMAC) saw their five-game win streak snapped as they came within a basket of tying or going ahead in the final minute before the Hardrockers (16-11, 13-8 RMAC) held on to win.
It was a wild night in the RMAC as the Top 3 teams all lost, with co-leaders Dixie State and Black Hills State falling at Colorado Christian and UCCS, respectively.
SD Mines bounced back with a strong victory after falling to UCCS on Friday night and are now tied for fifth place in the RMAC standings with the Mountain Lions.
The win gave SD Mines a first-ever berth to the RMAC post-season. SDSMT dominated the inside led by Â
Logan Elers as they outscored the Orediggers 46-24 in the paint. They led 38-22 on rebounding. -The Orediggers shot .463 overall and an improved .560 overall in the second half; SD Mines was .544 for the game including 6-of-12 for three-pointers.
Mitchell Sueker led the charge for the 'Rockers with 26 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot. Elers finished with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Allec Williams added 12 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals and
Damani Hayes added nine points.
