COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team saw it's nine-game winning streak snapped Friday night at the hands of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions, 75-68, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup in Colorado Springs.
Trailing by 21 points at the half, 42-21, the Hardrockers battled back in the second half, outscoring the home team, 17-12, in the third quarter as the deficit was 16 points heading into the final frame, 54-38.
The Hardrockers mounted a comeback over the final 10 minutes and had cut UCCS's edge to just six points at the 1:32 minute mark, 66-60, Â capped off by a four-point play from
Ryan Weiss, who drained a three-pointer and added the point after.
Unfortunately, the Mountain Lions were able to maintain their advantage and held off the 'Rockers comeback and escaped with the win.
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a fast start shooting 68 percent in the first quarter, hitting 11-16 buckets and finished the game making good on 31-64 attempts to shoot 48 percent.
The 'Rockers on the other hand had a little trouble getting their offense started, shooting 22 percent in the first quarter, connecting on 4-18 shots and ended the night at 31 percent from the field on 23-74 attempts. They were 7-31 from the three-point line and converted 15-18 from the free throw line.
Individually, the 'Rockers were led by Weiss with 23 points and six rebounds.
Anna Haugen added 16 points, nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and one blocked shot.
Sami Steffeck and
Molly McCabe both contributed with eight points each and
Michaela Shaklee added six markers.
