DENVER, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team met little resistance Friday night during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup against MSU Denver as the Hardrockers overwhelmed the Roadrunners, 80-51, in Denver, Colorado.
The Hardrockers led by as much as 43 points midway through the second half. They outscored MSUD, 46-35, in the first half, and kept up the intensity in the second period and bettered the home team, 34-26, over the final 20 minutes.
SD Mines shot 55.17 percent in the first half, making good on 14-30 attempts, including 7-13 from downtown. The output didn't fall off in the second half as the 'Rockers shot 46.67 percent connecting on 14-30, including 6-15 from behind the arch. On the night, the Hardrockers finished shooting 50.8 percent from the field converting 30-59 attempts.
MSU Denver, which was in a tailspin all night, finished with a 20-67 performance for 29.9 percent.
Allec Williams had another outstanding performance and played extremely well against his former team, collecting 13 points on the night. In doing so, he breached the 1,000-point mark in his college career.
Mitchell Sueker led the Hardrockers with 15 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot.
Jack Fiddler also finished with 13 points and added three rebounds and two steals.
Troy Brady and
Logan Elers both contributed with nine points.
Friday's win vaulted the Hardrockers from 10
th place in the RMAC standings to a tie for eighth place with Fort Lewis College, Regis University and CSU-Pueblo.
