RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team had a great game plan Friday night against Colorado Mesa during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game at the King Center in Rapid City, but a third-quarter scoring drought gave the visitors the edge they needed as the Mavericks defeated the Hardrocker women, 60-51.
It was all tied after the first quarter, 14-14, and CMU held just a two-point advantage at the half, 37-35. SD Mines notched just six points in the third period while the Mavs cashed in for 15 points. That proved the deciding factor as both squads posted nine markers in the final frame.
The Hardrockers finished the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field Friday making good on 19-57 attempts, including 7-27 from three-point range and had a 5-8 effort from the free throw line. The 'Rockers pulled in 34 rebounds, had 12 assists, eight steals and a blocked shot.
Colorado Mesa made goon on 21-58 shots, including 8-30 from behind the arch, was 11-14 from the foul line, had 44 rebounds, 14 assists, six steals and three blocked shots.
