SD Mines Collar ThunderWolves, 71-47, In RMAC Tilt

PUEBLO, Colo. – The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team was firing on all cylinders Friday night as the Hardrockers plowed over the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves, 71-47, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup in Pueblo, Colorado.

The only time the Hardrockers trailed in the game was the very beginning when CSUP held a 3-0 edge to open the first quarter, but SD Mines quickly gained control on five-straight points from Ryan Weiss. The 'Rockers closed the first quarter, 14-8, and then outscored the home team, 17-12, in the second period  and went into halftime up by 11, 31-20.

The T-Wolves put up 16 points in the third frame to 15 for SD Mines but then a 14-0 scoring run in the fourth quarter pushed the Hardrockers over the edge, as the visitors bettered CSU-Pueblo, 25-11, over the final 10 minutes.

The 'Rockers shot 72.73 percent in the fourth quarter and registered 43.9 percent for the game making good on 25-57 attempts, including 8-21 from three-point range. The 'Rockers hauled in 45 rebounds, notched 13 assists, four steals and four blocked shots. SD Mines also only committed nine turnovers on the night as well.

The ThunderWolves closed out the game shooting 29.2 percent hitting 19-65 shots and were only 2-20 from beyond the arch. They had 37 rebounds, six assists, seven steals and five blocked shots.

Weiss led the offense for the 'Rockers with 24 points, six rebounds and one assist. Anna Haugen recorded her sixth double-double of the season, cashing in for 16 points and coming down with 11 rebounds. Sami Steffeck contributed with 13 points, one assist and a blocked shot. Naomi Hidalgo added nine markers.
