RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team has won six of its last seven games and made some significant movement up the standings in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as the Hardrockers have moved into the Top 8.
SD Mines dispatched two of the conference's top teams in Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the King Center in Rapid City last weekend. The 'Rockers defeated the Orediggers, 84-69, on Friday night, and held the Mountain Lions to under 50 points in a 71-49 victory on Saturday.
After the weekend, the Hardrockers posted a 9-8 overall record and 6-5 mark in the RMAC, which put them in a three-way tie for sixth place with UCCS and Friday's opponent – CSU Pueblo. New Mexico Highlands, Saturday's opponent, is one game ahead at 7-4 and share fourth place in the standings with Colorado School of Mines. Dixie State and Black Hills State lead the RMAC with a 9-2 mark while Colorado Mesa is in third place with a 7-4 won-loss record.
So things will shift again in the league after this weekend.
The Hardrockers head into competition with the No. 9 scoring offense, registering 74.8 ppg and the No. 2 overall defense, allowing just 67.9 ppg. They also have the No. 2 rebounding defense, averaging 30.9 rpg.
Allec Williams, the RMAC's Offensive Player of The Week, leads the 'Rockers, cashing in for 14.4 ppg which ranks him 16
th all-time in the RMAC.
Mitchell Sueker is contributing with 12.9 ppg and
Logan Elers puts up 10.8 ppg and leads the team in rebounding with 5.7 rpg.
First on the schedule this weekend will be the Thunderwolves in Pueblo, Colorado on Friday night. They are 6-5 in the RMAC and 8-9 overall. They are led by David Simental who averages 16 ppg and Brandon McGhee who averages 13.2 ppg. SD Mines swept CSUP last season.

The 'Rockers will face NM Highland Cowboys on with a 12-4 overall record. They are sitting first in the conference for PPG, averaging 92.2. Sammy Barnes-Thompkins and Raquan Mitchell lead the Cowboys, averaging 24.8 ppg and 22.2 ppg respectively (which sits second and third in the RMAC for PPG).
