DENVER, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker Friday night, falling to the Regis Rangers, 66-63, in overtime during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup in Denver, Colorado.
The 'Rockers trailed, 15-8, after the first quarter, but outscored the home team 15-10, in the second period and went into halftime down by just two points, 25-23. SD Mines took a three-point edge going into the fourth quarter, 38-35.
With the scored knotted at 50 all with 3:15 remaining in the game, SD Mines was able to gain a small advantage with 17 second left, 57-54. Regis hit a three-pointer with eight ticks remaining and tied the score, 57-57, which forced an overtime period.
In the extra stanza, Regis was able to gain the momentum and held a three-point lead with just under 10 second to play. SD Mines had two opportunities to force a second overtime, but two three-pointer attempts were off the mark as the final buzzer sounded.
The 'Rockers finished the game shooting 29.3 percent from the field making good on 22-75 attempts, including 10-35 from behind the arc, and 9-14 on free throws. SD Mines recorded 46 rebounds, 10 assists, five steals and one blocked shot.
The Rangers converted 25-67 attempts to shoot 37.3 percent, including 4-18 from downtown and 12-15 from the foul line. The secured 53 rebounds, nine assists, three steals and four blocked shots.
Ryan Weiss led the Hardrockers with 18 points, four rebounds, one blocked shot and one assist.
Sami Steffeck tacked on 16 markers, seven rebounds, one assists and one steal.
Anna Haugen added 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot.
