The South Dakota School of Mines volleyball fell to the Dixie State Trailblazers, 3-0, Saturday night in St. George Utah in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference bout.
Â
The offensive efforts of Dixie State forced the 'Rockers to drop the three straight sets, 17-25, 12-25, 21-25. The Hardrockers played point to point with the Trailblazers in the first 10 points in set 1 but a 9-point serving run by Lizzy Clark gave the Trailblazers the momentum needed to close out the set.
Â
Set two proved to be a difficult set offensively for the Hardrockers as they were only able to post 5 kills in the set in comparison to the Trailblazers 18 kills.
Â
In set three, the Hardrockers began to find their rhythm offensively as they battled point for point with the Trailblazers up until point 18, where they relied on their two go-to hitters, Megan Treanor and To'a Faleao, to finish off the match.
Â
As a team, the Trailblazers were able to tally 46 kills on 98 attempts and a .347 hitting percentage. They were led offensively by To'a Faleao and Megan Treanor who posted 18 and 10 kills, respectively. The Trailblazers also put a lot of pressure of the 'Rocker passers as they were able to cause 10 reception errors.
Â
The Hardrockers were paced by Dana Thomson who posted 15 kills on 34 attempts, good for a .382 hitting percentage. Unfortunately, no other Hardrocker was able to post more than 3 kills. They had 28 kills on 98 attempts and combined for a .143 hitting percentage.
Â
The 'Rockers return to action next weekend to compete against RMAC foes New Mexico Highlands and CSU-P. Matches will be held in the King Center on the campus of SD Mines. First serve is 7p.m on Friday.
