CHANDLER, Ariz. --- After 36 holes in the books, the South Dakota School of Mines men's golf team is currently in 10
th place with one final round to play Tuesday during the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Arizona.
After carding team total of 310 on Sunday, the Hardrockers shaved off 11 strokes on Monday to tally 299 on Day 2 for a total of 609 strokes. Colorado School of Mines is leading the event with a two-day total of 552, Dixie State is second with 559, UCCS is third with 565 and Colorado Mesa is tied for fourth with Westminster College – each posting 570 strokes.
Individually, Nicklaus Britt of Dixie State is leading the tournament with a 36-hole score of 134 after posting a five-under par 66 on Sunday, followed by a three-under 68 on Monday. George Markham and Nic Beno, both of Colorado School of Mines, share second place, each registering scores of 135.
The Hardrockers were paced by
Jake Francis who is tied for 19
th place with a 145. After carding a 77 on Sunday, the freshman came back strong with a 68 on Monday for his lowest round of the season. Teammate
Bryce Howard is tied for 40
th with a 152 (78-74) and
Lane Jensen is one stroke back with a 153 (77-76) for a share of 44
th place.
Steven Bendt put up a 159 (78-81) for 49
th place and
Roger Nakagawa is 50
th with a 167 (83-84).
The third and final round begins Tuesday starting at 6:30 a.m. Â
