Hardrockers Cage Thunderwolves In RMAC Tilt, 80-66

PUEBLO, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team met little opposition Saturday night as the Hardrockers handled the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves, 80-66, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup in Pueblo, Colorado.

The Hardrockers again jumped out to a fast start and never looked back. Known for their strong defense, the Hardrockers offense was clicking with five SD Mines players reaching double figures.

The 'Rockers were able to play their style of game all night, and with a steady and methodical pace, was able to establish a 15-point edge with just under five minutes to go in the first half. A nice mix of accurate shooting on the perimeter and solid play in the paint was the main factor.

SD Mines led by 13 at the half, 39-26. The Thunderwolves couldn't muster much in the second half. The 'Rockers led by as much as 20 points two different times over the final 20 minutes and ended up outscoring the home team, 41-40, to notch their eighth conference win.

SD Mines shot an impressive 58.3 percent from the field Saturday, connecting on 28-48 attempts, including 10-19 from three-point range. They added 14-21 from the free throw line, came down with 37 rebounds, notched 15 assists, five steals and one blocked shot.

CSUP made good on 24-55 buckets to shoot 43.6 percent from the field, including 7-27 from behind the arch. They converted 11-16 from the free throw line, came down with 22 rebounds, recorded seven assists, 10 steals and three blocked shots.

The 'Rockers were paced by senior Jake Anastasi, who led all scorers with a career high 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal. Mitchell Sueker added 17 markers, five rebounds, one assist and one block. Logan Elers notched his fourth double-double of the season registering 13 points and 10 rebounds. Troy Brady added 13 points adn Damani Hayes contributed with 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists and one steal.
