RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team is set to hit the road for the second-consecutive weekend for two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rematches. The 'Rockers will head to Nebraska Friday for a rival game against Chadron State and then on to Denver, Colorado, Saturday to face the MSU Denver Roadrunners again.
Chadron Sate College has an overall record of 10-13 this season and are 8-9 in the RMAC which puts them tied for ninth with South Dakota School of Mines.
Chadron State has lost its last five games --- those losses came against Colorado School of Mines (82-75), Black Hills State (82-62), South Dakota School of Mines (80-59), Colorado School of Mines (90-56) and most recently University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (97-87).
Diontae Champion leads the Eagles in scoring, average with 11.7 points per game and also leads the team in steals with 29. Michael Sparks leads the team in overall points this season with 264 points in 23 games.
On Saturday the Hardrockers face the Roadrunners. Two weeks again, the 'Rockers defeated MSUD in overtime, 70-67, in a thrilling last-second buzzer beater.
The Roadrunners are 8-13 on the season and 6-10 in the conference and sit in 12
th place in the league standings.
MSUD has won one of its last five games --- the win coming against University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (93-81). The team's four losses in the last five came against South Dakota School of Mines, Black Hills State (64-62), University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (71-70) and Colorado School of Mines (66-60). The Roadrunners are led by Druce Asah, who is averaging 16.9 points per game this season. He is followed by teammate Garrett Carter who is averaging 12.5 points per game, Carter also leads the team with 76 assists.
After a split on the road last weekend, the Hardrockers enter the next two games with a 11-14 overall record and 8-9 mark in the conference.
Mitchell Sueker continues to lead the 'Rockers offense, averaging 14.1 ppg while
Logan Elers, this week's RMAC Defensive Player of the Week, is dishing in 12 ppg and paces the squad with 6.6 rpg.
