'Rockers Drop Roadrunners In OT On 3-pointer Buzzer Beater

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota School of Mines' Troy Brady sank a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer Friday night to stun MSU Denver and lift the Hardrockers to a 70-67 victory during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup in Rapid City, South Dakota.

MSU Denver had forced the overtime as Jaryn Taylor rebounded his own missed shot and scored with 15 seconds left to forge a 60-60 tie. Mitchell Sueker had an opportunity to win the game in regulation but a last-second shot attempt was off the mark and a put back by Damani Hayes rimmed in and out as the buzzer sounded.  

Twice in the second half the Roadrunners led by eight points, including a 46-38 advantage with 11:17 to play. But the Hardrockers scratched their way back into it. Overall the lead changed hands 18 times and there were 10 ties.

 MSU Denver trailed by as many as six points in the first half, but took a 29-28 lead into halftime on a 3-pointer by Marcus Jefferson with eight seconds to go.

 The 'Rockers shot 43 percent from the field on Friday making good on 26-61 attempts, including 6-15 from downtown and 12-15 from the free throw line. SD Mines notched 41 rebounds, recorded 12 assists, four steals and six blocks.

Sueker finished with a double-double Friday to lead the 'Rockers scoring 22 points and hauling in 12 rebounds. He added two blocks, one steal and an assist as well. Allec Williams also performed well with 18 points, four rebounds and one assist. Logan Elers tacked on 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal and Brady finished with 12 points and three assists.

 Carter led the Roadrunners with 20 points, while Kendall McIntosh had 15 before fouling out late in regulation. Taylor had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Druce Asah scored 11. Elijah Straughter had six points while pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds.
