CHADRON, Neb. – A lot of positive things happened to the Hardrockers Saturday during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference shootout against the Chadron State College Eagles in Nebraska.
SD Mines quarterback
Toby Smith threw six touchdown passes; place kicker
Enis Sefa hit two field goals over 45 yards, went 6-6 on PAT's and set a new school record; running back
Ahmad Lewis rushed for almost 180 yards; and
Carson Hunt and Joe Luebers caught five TD passes between them and racked up 186 yards in the process.
Unfortunately, the Eagles did enough at the end of the game, holding off the high-octane advance of the Hardrockers to win the game, 53-48. It was the most points either team had scored all season and the most that each had given up all season as well.
Sefa set a new school record for extra points in a career. The junior now has 103 in his career. He takes the record away from
Robbie Jo Gerarden who previously held the mark with 99.
Smith also ties a school record for touchdown passes is a game. He holds that record with
Jake Sullivan who did it in 2016 against Adams State.
The Hardrockers racked up 270 yards on the ground and had another 229 receiving yards in Saturday's game for 499 yards of total offense. Chadron finished with 573 yards of offense (222 rushing and 351 receiving).
Defensively for the 'Rockers,
Will Carroll, Tony Monroe, Jr., and
Cole Peterson all tallied six tackles each. Monroe also had an interception and
Steven Nolasco was credited with a fumble recovery.
