SD Mines Tripped Late By MSU Billings, 58-57

BILLINGS, Mont. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball erased a nine-point half time deficit and managed to gain a late lead only to see Montana State Billings steal a win away during a non-conference game Saturday night in Billings, Montana.

The Hardrockers took a four point-advantage at the 4:15 mark of the fourth quarter after a three-point goal from Ryan Weis, 57-53. MSUB would rally from there, hitting a layup with 3:08 to play and then made it, 57-56, at the 2:49 mark hitting one of two free throws. A fast-break layup at the 2:03 mark gave the home team a one-point edge and the eventual outcome of the game, 58-57.

The Hardrockers trailed by three after the first quarter, 17-14, and then went into halftime behind by nine, 31-22. The 'Rockers outscored MSU Billings, 17-12, in the third quarter and posted 18 points to MSUB's 15 in over the final 10 minutes.

SD Mines converted 23-59 from the field to shoot 39 percent on the night, including 7-21 from three-point range. The Yellowjackets were 20-59 from the field to shoot 33.9 percent.

The 'Rockers were 4-9 from the free throw line, collected 40 rebounds, 13 assists, five steals and one blocked shot. MSUB was 14-17 from the foul line, hauled in 37 rebounds. had 11 assists, six steals and five blocks.

Individually for the 'Rockers, Ryan Weis had an outstanding night with 19 points (four three-point goals), had six rebounds and two assists. Anna Haugen had a double-double, cashing in for 17 points and bringing down 11 rebounds. She added three assists and two steals. Naomi Hidalgo contributed with nine points while Sami Steffeck and Anna Combalia both dished in five markers.
