The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker to the Colorado Christian University Cougars Friday night during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match at the King Center in Rapid City, South Dakota, 3-2.
After falling behind two sets to none, the Hardrockers rallied back to take the next two games, but couldn't quite pull off the comeback as the Cougars won the decisive final frame.
CCU defeated the Hardrockers, 25-23, 25-17, 16-25, 18-25, 15-9. SD Mines has now played eight matches this season that went all five sets.
In the match, Colorado Christian notched 60 kills on 172 attacks and had a hitting percentage of .145. The Cougars tacked on 56 assists, 80 digs and came away with 11 total blocks. The Hardrockers ended the match with 41 kills on 152 attacks for .118 hitting percentage. They added 38 assists, 67 digs and notched 10 blocks.
Individually for SD Mines,
Dana Thomson, the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week, tallied 15 kills on 45 attacks for .200 hitting percentage and added nine digs and one assisted block.
Kassie Luce was credited 16 assists and
Shyann Bastian tallied 14.
Defensively for the 'Rockers
Jacey Koethe came away with seven assisted blocks and
Anna Thomas collected 21 digs on the night.
