Hardrocker Dig In For 4-Game Homestand Starting This Weekend

RAPID CITY,  S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team returns home this weekend for two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchups as the Hardrockers welcome CSU-Pueblo Friday night and will then challenge New Mexico Highlands Saturday afternoon.

CSU Pueblo has an overall record of 9-8 and a conference record of 7-4, this record puts them in fifth place in the RMAC standings. CSU Pueblo has lost three of their last five games all of which came during RMAC play.

The losses they suffered were against Western State (71-62), Colorado Mesa (67-58), and MSU Denver (82-51). The Thunderwolves two wins in the last five came against Regis (85-75) and Chadron State (68-67).

CSU-Pueblo is led by Jennah Knafelc who is averaging 14.6 rebounds per game, she is followed by Khiya Adams who is averaging 12.5 points per game.

On Saturday the Hardrockers will play host New Mexico Highlands University in a 3:30 p.m. tipoff. New Mexico Highland has a record of 4-14 overall this season and a conference mark of 2-9. This puts them in 14th place in the RMAC standings. In their last five games they are 1-4, all five games came against RMAC opponents. Their losses came against Colorado Christian (71-55), Colorado Mesa University (79-50) Western State (69-51), and most recently MSU Denver (81-41). The one win came against Chadron State 58-56 on January 18th.

Lewis continues to lead the team in scoring at 14.1 points per game (eighth in the RMAC) while also leading the team in 3-pointers made (43) and free throws made (51) and percentage (86.4 percent). George is second on the team in scoring at 10.8 points per game while averaging 5.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals. Brianna Stewart is averaging 7.7 points while DeAvion Allen is averaging 7.6 points along with 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.7 steals.

The Hardrockers dropped both games last weekend, falling at Colorado School of Mines on Friday (78-56) and at UCCS on Saturday(57-45).

The Hardrockers are 13th in the RMAC in scoring at 58.1 points per game while allowing 59.6 points per contest - fifth in the conference.

Taylor Molstad leads a banged up Hardrocker squad in scoring (10.4) and assists (2.3) while she's also averaging 1.2 steals. Sam Steffeck is averaging 9.6 points and has hit a team-best 34 three-pointers and has moved up from 12th all-time (before season started)  into the No. 4 spot all-time with 146  in her career. Steffeck needs just three this weekend to move into the No. 3 spot.
