RAPID CITY, S.D. --- Despite being challenged by injuries, the South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team dug deep Saturday night and held on to defeat Colorado Christian, 66-60, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match at the King Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The Hardrockers played some inspired basketball Saturday night, getting off to a fast start and showed a lot of resolve down the stretch, shaking off a Cougar comeback and hold on for the team's second RMAC win of the season.
SD Mines led by 10 points after the first quarter, 19-9, and went into halftime with an eight-point edge, 30-22. In the second half, Colorado Christian was able to cut into the deficit and midway through the fourth quarter had knotted the game at 56-56, before SD Mines was able to regroup and surge forward for the win.
The 'Rockers shot 36.8 percent from the field Saturday connecting on 21-57 attempts, including 9-23 from three-point range and tacked on 15-18 from the free throw line.
The Cougars ended the gme shooting 51 percent, converting 26-51 from the field, including 3-12 from three-point range and made good on 5-7 from the foul line.
Individually for SD Mines,
Sami Steffeck and
Michaela Shaklee paced the team with 13 points apiece, while
Taylor Molstad,
Anna Haugen and
Cooper Courtney all posted 10 markers each. Haugen added 11 rebounds on the night for her first double-double of the season.
