Rapid City, S.D.--- The South Dakot School of Mines women's volleyball team will hit the road this weekend for two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchups.
The first bout will take place on Friday at 7 pm against Metropolitan State University of Denver (8-6) in Denver, CO. MSU Denver is coming off a win in three sets against Western Colorado State University and a three-set loss against Colorado Mesa University last weekend. MSU Denver will bring a duo of outside hitters in Santaisha Sturgis, who has 174 kills on the year, and Taylor Duryea who has 170 kills.
On Saturday the Lady 'Rockers travel to Chadron, Nebraska, to face off against Chadron State College (3-12). Game time is set for 6 pm.
Heading into the weekend, the Eagles have lost in three sets to Colorado Mesa , won in three sets against Western State and lost in three sets to Wayne State College.
Chadron State will be led by freshman outside hitter Aracely Hernandez who has 131 Kills on the season and junior outside hitter Brooke Gardner who has 139 kills this season.
The Hardrockers dropped two matches last week falling to #24 Colorado School of Mines in three sets and then coming up short to University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in three sets.
However, it was a different story on Wednesday when the Lady 'Rockers traveled up to Dickinson, ND to take on Dickinson State University. The Hardrockers were able to come back and secure a 3-2 win.
Dana Thomson showed her talent once again by ending the night with 23 kills and continues to be ranked nationally,
Anna Breidt finished with 16 Kills and
Hannah Stevenson finished with 10 kills. This match was an all-around team effort as
Emma Eckel had 29 assists on the night and
Tana Dahlberg had 22.
Thomson averages an RMAC-best 4.6 kills per set and the Hardrockers have solid defensive statistics, as they rank fourth in the league with 16.0 digs per set and are seventh in opponent hitting percentage at .195. Breidt has 26 blocks on the season and
Hannah Stevenson has 24.
