Lady 'Rockers Are Clutch Down The Stretch; Defeat Orediggers, 65-57

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team pulled away from the Colorado School of Mines down the stretch Saturday afternoon during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference bout at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D., winning the important game, 65-57.

It was a back-and-forth game between the Orediggers (15-9, 12-6 RMAC) and Hardrockers (15-10, 10-9) with the score tied 10 times and lead exchanging hands 11 times. With 1:48 to play, Colorado School of Mines tied the game at 55-all with a free throw. However, SD Mines immediately sank a 3-pointer and went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe to pull away down the stretch.

The Lady 'Rockers led by two points after the first quarter, 19-17, and both squads posted 11 markers in the second period as SD Mines went into halftime up, 30-28. The 'Rockers again bettered the visitors by two point in the third quarter, 13-11, and then outscored the Orediggers, 22-18 to earn the victory.

The Hardrockers closed out the game making good on 20-56 attempts to shoot 35.7 percent from the field. They connected on 10-34 from the three-point line and converted 15-17 free throws. SD Mines collected 31 rebounds, earned 13 assists, seven steals and one blocked shot.

The Lady Orediggers were 23-61 to shoot 37.7 percent from the field and hit 5-30 from the three-point line. The added 6-9 from the foul line and added 34 rebounds, 12 assists and four steals.

SD Mines sophomore Anna Haugen earned another double-double putting up 12 points and coming down with 10 rebounds. Freshman Ryan Weiss tacked on nine markers, eight rebounds and one assist. Senior Payton Humpal also scored nine points while sophomores Sami Steffeck and Cooper Courtney each scored eight points.

Nicole Archambeau led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Anna Kollmorgen and Emily Bailey were next on the team with eight points each, and Kollmorgen dished out five assists.

The win improved SD Mines to 15-10 on the season and 10-9 in the conference and will next see action Friday night in a home contest against Western State Colorado University at 5:30 p.m. (MST).
