RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team started strong Friday night during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference first-ever meeting with Dixie State, but the Trailblazers applied pressure and turned the tables on the Lady Hardrockers and came away with a 70-62 win at the King Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
After leading by 12 points with just over six minutes to play in the third quarter, the visitors went on a 10-point run and knotted the game, 48-48, heading into the fourth quarter. Dixie State outscored the home team, 22-14, in the final frame to win the conference bout.
The 'Rockers led, 21-17, after the first quarter and then outscored DSU, 15-10, and led, 36-27, at the half. The Blazers tallied 22 markers in the third quarter while SD Mines netted 12.
The Hardrockers finished the game shooting 36.7 percent from the field hitting on 18-49 attempts, including 8-22 from three-point range and was 18-25 from the foul line. They collected 36 rebounds, recorded 14 assists and came up with eight steals.
Dixie State made good on 26-58 buckets, including 6-22 from the three point line and posted 12-14 free throws. The visitors came down with 23 boards, had 11 assists and 13 steals.
Taylor Molstad paced the Hardrockers with 16 points, three rebounds adn four assists.
Cooper Courtney added 12 points, two rebounds and one assist.
Anna Haugen contributed with eight points, came down with a game-high 13 rebounds and notched three assists and two steals.
